Image-Text

Paul started putting the names of creatures he could not photograph – the ones that got away – on digital images of the locations where the encounters with them occurred. And he did this using the phone’s software in camera whilst still in the outdoors sitting on a rock or in a cafe. He also began to see the sculptural forms of each letter that made up the words. The Image+Text synergy works, but it does necessitate an acceptance of the tension between the two mediums. The camera has visually recorded a segment of landscape that has now been ‘adulterated’ by words that one has to accept are not titles or captions.
